Actinomycosis in the maxilla of a young asymptomatic patient: unusual case report

ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to report an unusual case actinomycosis in the maxilla region asymptomatic patient. A 21-year-old white man was referred for analysis panoramic radiography and cone beam computed tomography, where it observed presence a hypodense lesion on left side maxilla, which extended from maxillary central incisor second premolar. During intraoral examination, depression hard palate mucosa, as well fistula alveolar mucosa close incisor, had pulp vitality confirmed by thermal tests. fistulography performed, with periapical radiography, found that fistulous path did not originate tooth mentioned above. An incisional biopsy performed diagnostic purposes. However, given inconclusive microscopic findings, four months later, new performed. histopathological examination revealed colony microoganisms filamentous pattern radiated rosette, surrounded polymorphonuclear inflammatory cells. Based morphological characteristics, diagnosis established. treatment based antibiotic therapy. Six after infection, no signs recurrence were observed, patient remains follow-up. Actinomycosis uncommon infection predilection males between ages 20 60, whose therapy associated or surgical excision.
